Japan Cultural Days – eventful

Celebrate the opening of the DIA’s new Japan Gallery with two days of events focusing on the arts and culture of Japan. At three times during each day, Japanese Pastry Chefs Motohiro Inaba and Rio Asano will demonstrate a simple, handmade dessert “chick” that the audience also can make. The demonstration will be accompanied by a performance by members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Youth Ensemble.

The duo has traveled the world working in sweets and pastry shops. Taking what they learned, Inaba and Asano opened their own sweet shop in Tokyo called Wagashi Asobi, where they combine modern flavors with traditional Japanese recipes.
